Valet service dates back to the Roaring Twenties, when the well-to-do ditched their horses for horsepower, and former stable hands became some of the first valets. In the mid-20’s, celeb haunts like The Brown Derby in Hollywood had carhops park patrons’ vehicles; and Franklin Simon, owner of the French department store Franklin Simon & Co. on Fifth Avenue in New York, offered free valet service for his well-heeled customers.
