Axel is a neutered male, short-haired, gray tabby, approximately two years old.  A handsome boy, Axel is declawed in front. A kind and compassionate man found the stray covered in a harsh chemical that left Axel scarred and burned. Four Peaks Animal Rescue cared for Axel who recovered nicely and is ready for a forever home. Axel quickly shook off his fears and now craves attention and human contact. He seems to prefer the company of men although he’ll tolerate women. Axel signals attention time with a meow. A love sponge, he may swat or nip if petting becomes too vigorous. He is a proper gentleman and likes his boundaries respected. He gets along with the kittens at Four Peaks but doesn't necessarily want to play with them. He is also good with dog-friendly cats. Current on his shots Axel tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV. He’s ready for a forever home. Would you like to meet this charming boy? Happy Tails Dachshund Rescue (“HTDR”) is a 501(c)(3) organizations whose mission is to save as many dachshunds as possible from suffering and premature death due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, injury, or illness. They foster unwanted dogs whose owners are no longer able or willing to provide for their care, and place them with adoptive families who can provide loving, forever homes. They spay/neuter all dogs before adoption and contact adoptive families in the first week to check on the health of their relationship with their new pet. HTDR’s area of operation is the East Valley of Greater Phoenix, Casa Grande and north Tucson.

Hope is a 7-year old, full-sized red dachshund.  She was abandoned at the Pima County pound one week before giving birth on September 11, 2011 to three puppies aptly named Liberty, Freedom and Justice.  Unfortunately, one of Hope’s puppies did not survive.  HTDR volunteers gave the remaining two puppies supplemental bottle feedings to ensure their survival.  Used extensively as a breeder dog in her former life, Hope’s face had whitened prematurely and she developed tumors in her lower mammary glands causing them to become enlarged and drag on the ground.  When she was spayed, HTDR helped Hope receive surgery to remove her posterior mammary glands and tumors.  Hope is now physically healthy and her new figure looks absolutely great!  She is an affectionate, good-natured dog who loves to be pet, play with her family, go for walks and chase toys.

If you would like to meet Hope, please contact Denise Strang, HTDR Director, toll free at 209-647-1251 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
