I’m from Chicago and my foodie husband is from New York, so it goes without saying that we have pretty high standards when it comes to pie. We haven’t come across too many places that impress us with their pizza and have pretty much given up on trying.

A few hot nights ago, when we were lazy and refused to turn on the oven (or start the microwave,) my husband mentioned the bar/restaurant a few blocks away, Amore Sports Bar.  Although I had absolutely no clue the spot he was talking about, it’s nearly hidden off the 101 and Bell, nestled right outside McDowell Mountains, I agreed to give it a try. Worst case scenario – I would contently have wine for dinner.  Service was exceptional and the owner, Tony, was on hand to have a quick chat.  He was very Italian, from Chicago and had a great deal of confidence in his thick crust pizza… a Chicago specialty. Truthfully, we didn’t have much faith in his pizza yet we still ordered it. Plus spicy wings and coors light for the mister and Kendall Jackson Chardonay for yours truly.

Not only did my husband thuroughly enjoy his wings but…we both LOVED the thick crust Chicago style pizza! I’m pretty confident that we will not find better.  We took my husbands Harley to dinner that night and still figured out how to get home while carrying the leftover pizza on the motorcycle!  It was THAT tasty.

Amore Sports Bar has a mixed menu of Italain favorites and typical bar food.  They also have Happy Hour specials, kareoke and DJ nights.  This is a perfect spot for Happy Hour, as it’s nearby the many businesses around McDowell Mountain.

If you’re looking for great pizza, a fun sports bar atmosphere and superior service you should head to Amore Sports Bar. Click HERE to like them on facebook!
