I know many who count down the days to the Scottsdale Culinary Festival. This celebration honoring the Arizona dining industry has evolved into one of the highest acclaimed festivals in the Phoenix area and 2012 is no exception. Even for those who are experienced Culinary Fest supporters the endless options can become overwhelming. The key event, the Great Arizona Picnic, is on Saturday and Sunday April 21 and 22, at the Scottsdale Civic Center. There are also many secondary events at the Fest during the weekend, such as shows with Food Network Stars Adam Richman & Andrew Zimmern and the Southwest Festival of Beers.
If you plan on enjoying festivities through the week, below is a helpful overview.
When: Tuesday, April 17, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Where: Mabel’s on Main, Scottsdale
What: Shaken and Stirred
Tickets: $40
*Sample 3 drinks from a classic era and the perfect treats to match. A full bar will be available for other imbibing and tunes will be provided by World Famous Rani “g” alongside Shea Marshall Live on Saxophone.
When: Wednesday, April 18, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Where: Talking Stick Resort, Scottsdale
What: Second Annual Chocolate & Wine Experience
Tickets: $50
*Indulge your sweet tooth with chocolate creations from some of the Valley’s best pastry chefs expertly paired with unique wines from around the world.
Where: Scottsdale Stadium
What: First Ever Burger Battle
Tickets: $55
* Sixteen of the best chefs and restaurants will compete for the coveted title of Best Burger in the Valley. Those who attend the friendly, burger bash will have the chance to taste and vote for the burger with the best bite.
Where: The Saguaro Hotel, Scottsdale
What: Bubbles & Bliss
Tickets: $40
*Pop a bottle, take a sip and stroll around The Saguaro while sampling champagne-infused cuisine designed by Chef Jose Garces.
Where: Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts
What: Eat Drink & Be Pretty After Party
Tickets: $70
*Your fashion-forward experience begins as you walk the red carpet into an evening of food sampling from 20 of the Valley’s favorite restaurants and wine tasting with several unique wineries. The evening includes a spring fashion show presented by Carine W and a high-energy hair style demonstration by Rolf’s Hair Salon and Spa. Add music from DJ P-Body inside and Las Vegas show band True to Life outside and you have all the ingredients for a very Eat, Drink and Be Pretty evening.
When: Sunday, April 22, from 6:30 – 10:00 p.m.
Where: Scottsdale Waterfront
What: Best of the Fest Event
Tickets: $175
*Valley’s best chefs take charge of their own two tables to bring their personality and flair to guests who selected to dine with them. A friendly competition of sorts, as diners enter and take their seats, eyes peer at opposing tables to see what over-the-top decadence other guests may be experiencing.
