We can no longer hide from the fact that summer has dawned. Yes we are sadly at the beginning of what is sure to be a hundred days of heat. Every year for some reason we all act surprised and even unprepared for the swelter that lingers. But if like me you refuse to succumb to the many makeup disasters that await in the triple digits try some of my favorite ways to keep your makeup looking fresh.
The term less is more definitely applies here, switch to a tinted moisturizer instead of a heavier foundation and spot conceal where necessary to cover blemishes, scarring or undereye circles. I love the Becca Luminous Skin Color which comes in a full range of shades to match any skin tone plus it keeps skin hydrated.
Dust a fine loose powder over your foundation in the morning, but stash blotting tissues in your handbag to mop up shine and oils throughout the day. This keeps your foundation in tact without getting cakey. I love these Boscia blotters which come in several varieties to match your skin type.
If your blush seems to disappear by mid-day try a gel or cream formula which stays fresh and pretty no matter what the weather is doing. Products that work double duty like a lip/cheek stain is a great solution and easy to stash in your makeup bag Stila Cherry Crush Lip & Cheek stain leaves a just bitten look to the lips and a great rosy flush on the cheeks that last all day.
When I had my beauty boutique Glam Lounge we had loads of clients that complained about their mascara running or smudging in the summer heat and wanted to find something better. The Kevyn Aucoin Curling Mascara never let me or my clients down. The protein based formula shrink wraps lashes with staying power but it washes off in a snap at the end of the day.
And even worse than mascara melting is a slept in smudged eyeliner look during the day. I have never been a huge fan of liquid eyeliner, in fact I think that most older women look even more harsh with that dramatic line. Instead I have always favored a pencil, but recently a certain celeb client had me try her eye liner and I have to say…I was impressed even under the hot lights of a tv set! Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof eyeliner stays in place without any smudging.
