Can you believe it, we are close enough to the New Year that we can actually start counting down the hours? And as usual I have yet to pick an outfit. Though for me, no matter how much planning I do, how many friends I say yes to, how many dresses I ogle over and vow to purchase, my New Year’s Eve usually ends up with me watching the ball drop on TV with some form of fattening food in my hand or on the not so rare occasion I am fast asleep in my bed.
So instead of writing about the sexiest, most sparkling dress you must have going into 2012 (though of course I will at least list one) I’ve decided to compile a list of New Year Eve outfits that will fit almost everyone’s plans… because who said you don’t need a cute pair of pajamas to start off the New Year.
The pre-celebration dinner outfit
Every year my family gets together for an early evening dinner to celebrate together before we all head our separate ways. If this is the only celebration you’ll be attending, you can go with casual but stylish separates. I really love this look by Vince Camuto: trendy chunky-knit, drop-shoulder sweater and sailor denim trousers. Add a bright purse for a contrasting pop of color.
The cocktail party at a friend’s house outfit
A cocktail party at a friend’s house is probably one of the most enjoyable ways to ring in the New Year. It is also the perfect time to wear a statement dress (sorry ladies no dazzle and shine here), wear an ultra style-conscience dress like this offbeat, mixed print, satin dress by Dolce&Gabanna. Wear neutral shoes to keep all the attention on your dress.
The at home outfit
There is nothing more comfy to me than leggings paired with a long soft tee. Just because you may be spending midnight on your couch or on your pillow doesn’t mean that you can’t feel good about what you are wearing. This DKNY Henley and legging set might be my choice this year. Add a pair of fuzzy socks or plush slippers… you deserve it, you’ve made it through another year.
The party all night and morning outfit
I promised to add at least one shiny masterpiece, and this Alice + Olivia sequin dress is most definitely a masterpiece. If you are going to do sparkle then I say go for it, but try something a little different like this mesh dress with sequin triangles, you’ll surely standout from the sea black and navy sequin dresses… in a good way of course! Happy New Year!
