More details of the much anticipated Carine Roitfeld Magazine have been revealed. The former Editor of French Vogue and style muse to legions of industry insiders and Vogue coffee table readers has named her new magazine CR. Yes. Surprise! Those two little initials that appeared at the end of every French Vogue Editor’s letter for a decade will now grace the matte cover of her biannual fashion book.
Roitfeld described the magazine as a “celebration of fashion and creativity” she also told WWD “I’m in the middle of searching for new talents, and it’s so exciting and energizing,” she said. Fashion Media Group LLC, the New York-based company will publish CR Fashion Book. FMG LLC. Also publishes Vissionaire, V Magazine and VMan some of the most creative and intriguing regularly published fashion tomes on the market.
“Carine Roitfeld is one of the most talented editors in our industry. She deserves an editorial platform with which to express herself, and I’m happy to provide one,” said Fashion Media founder Stephen Gan. “I hope it will enlighten. I hope it will build bridges not walls. The fashion magazine industry has gotten too political.”
Approximately 50,000 copies will be printed, with roughly half the distribution going to Europe, and the balance to Asia and the U.S. The first issue is expected to be around 288 and selling for $9.95, with 100 or so of those pages coming from advertising. Roitfeld’s approach to advertising will be similar to her approach to the fashion content as all advertising has to appear as fashion spreads. She also plans to feature no front-of-book section and longer format articles. There will also be an online component which she believes is the perfect place to house the front- of- book features.
Each issue will be created around a theme, no doubt as provocative and boundary pushing as the work that Rotifeld did at French Vogue. Since leaving her post in 2011 Carine has kept busy styling windows and catalogs for Barneys NY, creating books with Rizzoli and with Karl Lagerfeld along with styling for Vissionaire and VMen. And though the CR Fashion Book will take a considerable focus Roitfeld says that it’s a “project between other projects” as she will continue to style for other ventures.
Roitfeld is also the subject of a feature-length documentary by Fabien Constant slated for 2013. Constant has been following Carine to all the best fashion shows, parties and shoots, and will foray into the making of the magazine as well. Her biggest and brightest project is of course the welcoming of her new grandchild soon as her daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is expecting in just six weeks.
