Bankruptcy, Judgements, New Faces-News Roundup

As a fashion and beauty blogger I try my best to stay on top of the latest news as to keep you lovely readers in the know. It’s been a few weeks since we’ve done a fashion news roundup, and today seemed appropriate with all that is going on. It’s been a rough week for some and some big changes for others.

If you haven’t already heard the news, Betsey Johnson LLC has filed for bankruptcy. With the filing will come the close of a majority of the 63 stores and the layoff of a possible 350 employees. Though this is sad news for many die-hard fans, the brand will still be sold in Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales.

Betsey Johnson and Steve Madden are not letting this “minor” setback get the best of them,  “As the owners of the Betsey Johnson brand, we at Steve Madden remain firmly committed to Betsey Johnson – the designer, her vision and our growing wholesale business – which is up over 50 percent so far for 2012.” via Forbes.com

Elle.com lost half of its editorial staff. At first read, it may sound horrible but actually this means the the talent has merely been nicely scattered among some other fabulous projects. For one, Elle.com fashion editor Britt Aboutaleb is leaving the east coast to become the beauty director for whowhatwear.com.

Three more of the magazine website’s staff will be going to Du Jour an online and print publication to be launched in collaboration with Gilt Groupe. This leaves us guessing who will fill the spots at Elle.com … Via fashionista.com

The fight against fashion counterfieting made a giant leap forward as Manhattan Federal Judge Denise Cote awarded a judgement against several, 34 to be exact, websites that sold Hermes knockoffs. The judgement is worth $100 million, and the websites must be removed from Google, Bing, Yahoo and de-indexed from Twitter and Facebook. I for one am a huge fan of this judge! Via nypost.com

In a bit of a reversal of rolls, Olivia Palermo has been named the face of Rochas newest scent. Usually you think supermodel or celebrity, but the fragrance is aimed at a younger audience and so the reality tv star and socialite seems to be the perfect fit. What do you think of this choice? In other beauty news, a favorite here at AFM Style Files, Carine Roitfeld is getting her very own MAC makeup line. It will launch this fall along with her new magazine! Via wwd.com
