Marchesa Reworks the Traditional Wedding Dress for the Modern, Fashionable Bride

A wedding dress is one item in fashion that always seems to steer in the way of traditional; usually long and white, with embroidery or beadwork being the only rebel without a cause.

At Bridal Fashion Week, Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig chose to deviate from the norm entirely by introducing two new wedding dress trends that will surely turn bridal fashion on its sparkly heels.

MAmid the 15 looks from Marchesa’s fall/winter 2015 bridal presentation were ivory-colored tops paired with matching skirts instead of the usual floor-length gown. Decorated crystal tops were layered upon tulle bustiers that complemented tulle skirts, while peplum jackets and detachable capes placed the finishing touches. Think of this as the crop top making its bridal debut.

“We looked at separates this year—skirts, tops, bodices, capes,” Chapman told InStyle. “We were really looking at versatility. Brides may want to change after the ceremony. They’re more experimental and more open to a less traditional dress.”

M1If mixing up the time-honored silhouette wasn’t enough, Marchesa dared to forgo conventional white in favor of warm champagne hues.

What do you think – Should bridal designers think outside of the box like Marchesa, or do you prefer a traditional wedding dress?
