Italian fashion designer Gianfranco Ferré was known among his peers as the “architect of fashion,” taking the basic white shirt as the ultimate expression of his design style. The exhibit features a selection of 27 of Ferré’s iconic white shirts spanning his 30-year career.

Ten students from the Art Institute took inspiration from Ferré’s designs to create their own iterations of the classic white shirt, including women’s and men’s in styles as varied as a strait-jacket-inspired shirt to a tailored top with intricate pleat and button details.
