Spring 2010- Mulberry, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Narciso Rodrieguez

Mulberry Spring 2010

So many fashion events so little time. Fall is definitely kicking into gear between premieres, shows and fabulous celebrations like tonight’s FGI Night of Stars I can barely keep my iCal straight! I remember when Spring fashion week was just around the corner from Halloween giving one a true sense of “seasons” if you will. Just around the time you were throwing on the fall coats came the spring shows and visa versa… sundresses and sandals = fall runway… Puulleasse, I love fashion just as much as the next stylist but how can one be expected to sport the latest over- the -knee’s and knits in 100 plus weather while simultaneously waxing poetically about the warm weather season ahead?

It’s enough to make me cry off my Latisse… in any case Spring 2010 continues with some rather eye popping collections in every variety from sexy school girl, to gothic neophile and chic sophisticate.

Out of the gate Mulberry was a cool mix reminiscent of your cool 70’s babysitter and the most popular girl at school. Groovy fringed leather bags and heels punctuated the looks and highly notable were the softly hued leather and pop- art brights. Not for the faint hearted this collection says- I am woman here me roar!

Marc Jacobs did it again with Marc by Marc Jacobs another wildly bright and keenly cool collection full of twists and turns. The 40’s by 80’s theme rings on here with pinched in shoulders and colorful hues blended with another version of the burgeoning New York tribal trend seen earlier at DVF. This collection brought me back to the early Basquiat days when everyone was mad about color and swooning over patterns galore.

Then of course there’s Tory… the woman who single handedly re-invented dressy casual. Her collection was fabulously full of everything but the kitchen sink. From Native American prints to snake, eyelet, studs, gingham and even denim these pieces were on the wish lists of everyone from editors to bloggers alike. Ms Burch is nothing if not about lifestyle, she definitely creates pieces that we all want to live in and this collection is no exception!

For me no Fashion Week would be complete without Narciso Rodriguez the master architect. In fact for all those “I am a designer” types that actually manufacture their wares in their kitchen…this is the man to model your sewing after. I fully admit that yes I have stared almost as long at the inner seams and lining of a NR dress as I have at a Dutch masters at the Met. Silly, I agree but rarely does one ever see a seam like that except at when staring at a Ralph Rucci or my old fav Richard Tyler. For this collection there were looser silhouette than in season past but still every bit as dramatic and chic.
