Barrett-Jackson 2017 Kicks into High Gear

17AZ-Family-Value-Day-2437With two days under its belt, Barrett-Jackson kicks into high gear this week, after a fun-filled preview weekend. The collector-car bidding starts today, with the most cars ever — more than 1700 — rolling across the block over the course of the week. Cars, celebrity appearances, arena polo matches, and more make Barrett-Jackson 2017 the biggest and most exciting auto event in the Valley.

Celebrity Cars

Vehicles with impressive star power will take the stage, including cars from Steven Tyler and Justin Bieber, who are both expected to appear on the block alongside their vehicles.

Tyler will offer his 2012 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder — the fifth of only 12 created, and the first Spyder convertible — on Friday, January 20. All of the money from the sale will go to Janie’s Fund, Tyler’s charity created to help girls who have suffered from abuse and neglect.

Created by West Coast Customs, the custom F1 Edition includes a custom-built interior and other special touches, particularly to the audio system. Also on Saturday, a 1956 Austin Princess once owned by John Lennon, and featured in the documentary, “Imagine,” will certainly be a draw.

In addition to the rock stars of the music world, NASCAR headliner Dale Earnhardt Jr. will visit Barrett-Jackson for the first time to auction off two cars for charity: a custom-designed 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle and his 2014 Chevrolet #88 race car. Both sales will benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Other celebrity cars include those owned by Burt Reynolds, Kurt Russell, Sammy Hagar, Reggie Jackson, Kevin Durant, and Eddie Van Halen. You can also buy a piece of movie history by placing a bid on “Shaking Herbie,” a 1960 Volkswagen Beetle that is one of only four remaining Herbie the Love Bug vehicles.

Beyond the Block

17SD-Jan15-Automobilia_8835In addition to all the star power, and hot cars, there are plenty of other activities worth exploring at Barrett-Jackson. Ford and Dodge will offer thrill rides on the track, and you can sit in the passenger seat with a professional stunt driver. Of course, there are seminars, vendor areas, along with plenty of dining and beverage options, and the art and automobilia appeal to a wide audience of car enthusiasts and casual observers alike.

While Barrett-Jackson is certainly the most exciting and biggest car event in the Valley, it is also one of the best social events. The action on the block is infectious, the crowds invigorating, and the event is the place to see and be seen.

Barrett-Jackson opens at 8 a.m., through Sunday, January 22. A full schedule of events and vehicles, and ticket informationå can be found on Barrett-Jackson’s website.
