Ford Mustang Mach-E: Embracing the Electric Surge

Hybrid and electric vehicles have taken over the roads. From Teslas to Priuses, they’re everywhere. Because of their popularity, you knew it wouldn’t be long before Ford got in on the action. With the Mustang Mach-E, the automaker known for its big, heavy duty trucks has gone all-in rather than just dipping its toes. This car is the real deal and other EV companies should take note.

When it comes to body design, it looks nothing like past or current Mustangs. In fact, it’s much more like a crossover vehicle than it is a muscle car. It does hint at its ‘Stang’ roots with its thrusting bonnet and lighting configuration, but that’s where the comparisons stop. Once you get past that initial disconnect, you realize how cool the Mach-E is in its own right. As a rule, most crossover vehicles are pretty cookie cutter when it comes to exterior design, but the Mach-E is the anomaly. It screams innovation and forward thinking.

The interior of the Mach-E is just as cool as the outside. The 15.5″ center touchscreen makes the cabin feel almost airplane cockpit like. Most touchscreens are in the 10”-12” range, but the massive display in the Mach-E announces its presence the moment you step inside. Turn the B&O 10-speaker sound system volume up to 11, and you’re ready to hit the road. Even if you choose to take a few passengers with you, the Mach-E seats five comfortably.

From a performance standpoint, Ford didn’t hold back. The 91 kWh ext battery helps this speedster generate 290 hp/317 lb-ft RWD and 346 hp/428 lb-ft eAWD. When testing its quickness on corners and sharp turns, the Mach-E steering feels tight and easy to maneuver. In lesser vehicles, there’s a certain speed at which the car feels like it’s telling you to pump the brakes, but the Mach-E continues to nod its head the faster you go. Obviously, the biggest concern with EV’s is the driving range, but when the battery is fully charged, you’ll be able to travel 310 miles before recharging. With most EV’s averaging a driving range in the mid to low 200’s, the Mach-E is at the top of the game in this category. Once you do need to recharge, you’ll want to allow about 10 hours to be back at full fuel.

Ford has hit a steroid-era home run with the Mach-E. It’s sleek, fast, easy to handle, and the driving range is second to none. If you’re in the market for an EV that will give you everything you desire and then some, the choice is simple…buy a Mach-E.
