The GX 460 rolls into 2020 as a nice in-between option in the Lexus line-up. Perfect for the consumer looking for more off-road hardware than the soft, spoiled RX. But not needing the size or high price tag of the Land Cruiser or LX 570 models. It’s a mid-size luxury SUV that can still seat seven. Separating itself from many other luxury SUV’s on the road with a rugged design and truly sophisticated off-roading equipment that allows it to handle tough trails that would leave most others in its class stuck in their tracks.
For 2020, Lexus has upgraded the GX model with a list of new toys. The dominant spindle grille gets revised sheetmetal. Other updated garnishments can be found around the exterior as well. Futuristic, high-tech triple-beam LED headlights are now standard equipment. They have a wonderfully premium look and couldn’t do a better job of illuminating the road ahead. In addition, Atomic Silver gets added to the palette of paint colors.
On the inside, The 2020 GX receives a few USB ports in the rear, new detailing on the shift knob and steering wheel, plus driver-assistance features in the Lexus Safety System Plus Suite. Amenities that now come standard across all GX models.
The Lexus GX 460 continues to package great off-roading capabilities with that level of Lexus luxury you can count on. A quite, smooth ride and a bevy of amenities on board to spoil each of the seven passengers. The hard-bottomed second row seating can become uncomfortable after awhile, and a 16 combined mpg won’t get you far in between stops at the gas station. Two areas of weakness we hope to see addressed in the near future.
