Stick Shift: 2020 Lexus LS 500h

For 2020, the extra posh and excessively polished Lexus LS 500h delivers like never before on luxury and comfort. Its powerful V8 serves silky smooth acceleration with a refined exhaust note. All while still making a respectably 28 combined mpg. Exterior design continues to improve over the more aesthetically cautious LS 460 of the past. But, like any luxury sedan, the interior is where special attention must be placed. Thankfully, this is where the new LS 500h really gets things right.

Not to be confused with other 4-door sedan options like the Lexus GS or ES. The LS is longer and sleeker. With the extra room from a stretched wheelbase, the cabin has been fitted with all the best Lexus has. The back seats arguably getting the most. From behind the front passenger seat, you’ll feel chauffeured in a way a Mercedes S-class or Rolls-Royce could only offer in the past.

You can control the sun shades, climate, seat massagers, heaters, ventilators and seating position with ease. Speaking of, the passenger seat will fold up and tuck away against the dash-board, allowing the back seat to recline way back and extend a foot-rest for maximum comfort. You’ll have complete control over the 23-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system as well. Everything from a brightly lit touch display that sits right at your fingertips.

While each square inch of the LS 500h interior has been agonized over, the door-trim is where the eye returns over and over, as it is especially beautiful to behold. Hand-folded pleats that look like delicate origami are the backdrop to a soft, leather-clad floating arm rest. The sculpted door handle is surrounded by a polished metal-etching work of art that looks like carved Bacarat crystal.

From wherever you find yourself, the 2020 Lexus LS 500h will swaddle you in all the finer-things the automotive industry has to offer. It is a car that’s just as much a pleasure to drive as it is a joy to be driven in. Performance is strong. Exterior design will turn heads. And interior comforts are almost too numerous to list. Truly, a car to be experienced first hand, as the written word can only be so flowery.
