Country music often seems to stand-alone. Rarely mixing with the likes of other genres, it’s always exciting when country artists do. This year at the CMT Country Music Awards, two big names in the music industry are being fused together for a much-anticipated performance. Country stars Lady Antebellum and EDM breakout star Zedd will take the stage to perform a medley of their current singles. With last years CMT Award’s being the second most watched telecast, this year just might take the cake. The network’s Senior Vice President music events and talent, John Hamlin told Billboard in a recent interview that the show should “…reflect what our audiences like…You need to have some unpredictable things.” He also went on to say that Lady Antebellum and Zedd immediately were on board with the idea after it was presented to them. As far as additional similar acts go, don’t expect to see too many. Hamlin told Billboard that they’re “always cognizant that you don’t want to go too far.” “We in the country music business all learned something from what the Dixie Chicks went through…and that’s a shame.” The Dixie Chicks may never live that one down.
As for the rest of the performers, expect to see a slew of your favorites like Reba Mcentire (for the first time in 10 years), Keith Urban with a new single, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Sam Hunt, and more.
The show will be hosted by Erin Andrews and Brittany Snow and will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on June 10 at 8pm ET on CMT. Make sure to tune in for all the excitement. Who knows, maybe another Dixie Chick moment will happen.
