Glitzy costumes, tons of scandal and lots of jazz will be showing up at Phoenix Theatre starting September 9. CHICAGO The Musical will be dancing across the stage until October 4 and putting on a true show. The musical has racked up six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy. CHICAGO is currently in its 19th year on Broadway and remains the #1 longest running American musical in Broadway history. The 2002 film adaptation starring Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones was the winner of six Academy Awards including Best Picture.
Filled with drama and flashy dancing, the story is centered on two young women, Velma and Roxie, in the 1920’s accused of murder who both end up in the women’s block of Cook County Jail. Both women, sharing the same lawyer, compete for notoriety and fame by dazzling and seducing. Surrounded with colorful characters like Matron “Mama” Morton, scheming lawyer Billy Flynn, and multiple sultry murderesses, the show will keep you on your toes.
