The Pinnacle Guide – much like the Michelin Guide, but for bars – celebrates excellence in the industry and recognizes innovative cocktails and experiences across the globe.
The Pinnacle Guide is based on a thorough self-application process and rigorous assessments, followed by a series of spot-check interviews and anonymous in-bar reviews. From the website: “Fair and visible processes lie at the core of The Pinnacle Guide, which promises every deserving establishment, regardless of size or location, a clear path to recognition.”
While recognizing excellence in drinks, ambiance, and hospitality, The Pinnacle Guide also rewards operators who make a positive social impact. Bars are awarded 1 Pin for “excellent,” 2 Pins for “outstanding” and 3 Pins for “exceptional.”
Three Valley bars are now added to that list: Little Rituals received one pin and Bitter & Twisted and Century Grand received two pins.
Housed in the historic Luhrs Building in downtown Phoenix, once home to the former Arizona Prohibition Headquarters, Bitter & Twisted encourages guests to immerse themselves in a world of innovative cocktails and delicious bar bites. Bitter & Twisted has established itself as the go-to destination for a stylish and sophisticated drinking experience, with a globally recognized, award-winning cocktail program and consistently rated for “World’s Best Cocktail Menu.”
Century Grand comprises two original cocktail experiences: Platform 18 and the Grey Hen Rx. Platform 18 is an immersive bar experience that takes guests to 1924 New York City as they “ride” on a Presidential Pullman-inspired train car. The drinks are inspired by 1920s immigration and the boroughs that emerged. The 90-minute cocktail experience is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 4 p.m. to midnight and Fridays through Sundays from 2:30 p.m. to midnight. Walk-ins are accepted, but booking a ticket to this hotspot is recommended.
“At Century Grand, we are committed to delivering an unforgettable experience with every cocktail,” Cortnie Cozeck, director of operations at Barter & Shake, said. “Receiving 2 Pins is a powerful affirmation of our team’s vision and dedication to redefining what a world-class bar should be.”
Grey Hen RX is inspired by M.E. Lee’s House of Exotic Imports in NYC. This bar celebrates the emerging traditional Chinese cuisine of the 1920s. The vibrant atmosphere offers each guest a newspaper to set the scene and choose from a variety of drink concoctions.
“We are incredibly proud to be recognized by The Pinnacle Guide,” Mat Snapp, partner at Barter & Shake, said. “The honor of the 2 Pin distinction is indicative of relentless dedication to service and hospitality and the combined creativity of our team. A cocktail alone, without a charming bartender, welcoming atmosphere, and intentional hospitality, is just fancy liquor in a glass.”
The Pinnacle Guide has set itself apart from other bar awards by allowing bars of all sizes and locations to be recognized. The guide awards bars that consumers enjoy not just for the drinks but for the atmosphere and service.
