A cherished tradition at the Rusty Spur Saloon, where patrons have long attached dollar bills to the walls to commemorate their visits, has evolved into a heartwarming act of giving back to the community. This year, Scottsdale’s oldest bar – an iconic landmark – raised $6,000 for the Phoenix Children’s Foundation, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing philanthropic efforts.
Rusty Spur employees carefully removed and counted the thousands of dollar bills on the saloon’s walls, totaling $5,742. In a show of additional support, the owners of POV Foods, the parent company of the Rusty Spur Saloon, generously rounded up the donation to $6,000.
The funds will go directly to the Phoenix Children’s Hope Fund, which provides crucial resources for innovative treatments, advanced equipment, and family-centered care at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
“These dollar bills symbolize not only the memories made here but also the potential to make a difference in our community,” Operations Manager Janeth Moore said.
The donation will support over 170 essential programs at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The Hope Fund enables the hospital to invest in cutting-edge technology, launch new clinical programs, and sustain initiatives that prioritize children’s and their families’ well-being.
“We are incredibly grateful for the amazing support from Rusty Spur, its employees, and its customers year after year,” Phoenix Children’s Foundations CDO Jordan Olstead said. “Partnerships like this empower us to continue delivering vital services to our patients and their families.”
This year’s donation surpasses last year’s $5,000 contribution, a testament to the growing generosity of the Rusty Spur Saloon community.
Founded in 1951, the Rusty Spur Saloon has been a cornerstone of downtown Scottsdale, operating in a historic building that dates back to 1921, when it served as the Farmer’s State Bank of Scottsdale.
The building still retains its original bank vault, which has been repurposed into a refrigerated storage unit for beverages. Known for its authentic Southwestern charm, the Rusty Spur offers a lively atmosphere with cold beer, prickly pear margaritas, and live country music. The saloon draws locals and visitors worldwide, including celebs like Dierks Bentley, Blake Shelton, and Post Malone. To learn more, visit rustyspursaloon.com.
