Some of music’s most memorable moments have happened on the VMA stage. Nobody can forget Kanye’s interruption of Taylor’s acceptance speech or the moment Britney and Madonna locked lips. No doubt you can expect the same from this year’s VMA’s which will take place Sunday evening. After last year’s much talked about performance from Miley Cyrus, she’ll be hosting this year’s entire award show, something that even MTV realizes is a risk, claiming they are on a delay so they’re “ready for Miley.”
Another moment that will be reminiscent from last year’s VMA’s will be the opening act. Nicki Minaj, who performed “Anaconda” in 2014 to open the show up will also be kicking off this year’s awards show with another big performance, no doubt. Also performing will be Justin Bieber with his most recent single “What Do You Mean?” and Nick Jonas will take the stage for his new single “Levels.” The Weeknd is set to perform “Can’t Feel My Face,” off his new album released August 28 and Taylor Swift will be releasing the video for her single “Wildest Dreams” during the pre-show. The last time Taylor released a music video at an award show it broke a viewing record – let’s see what this one will do.
Along with tons of new music and highly anticipated performances, Kanye West will be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for constantly creating innovative and artistic videos. I’m sure we can expect an extended performance and lots of things to say from West. With hopes, he’ll do as past winners have done and perform a medley of some his greatest hits and touch on some of his classic albums like “College Dropout” and “Late Registration.”
