The Suncliffe Showdown is returning to Phoenix for its fourth year on Monday, April 14, at The Churchill. Hosted by Suncliffe Gin, a locally made spirit crafted from wild-foraged botanicals, the event goes beyond just a cocktail competition; it’s a tribute to the spirit of Arizona. Starting at 6 p.m., attendees can enjoy an immersive experience that highlights the vibrant community, diverse bartending talent, and natural flavors unique to the Sonoran Desert.
Suncliffe serves as the foundation for the competition. Bartenders from across the state will showcase their skills and creativity in crafting original drinks. The event is a chance for local bartenders to shine and a way to promote Arizona-grown ingredients and the landscape’s influence on the region’s bartending culture.
Judges for this year’s event include James Beard Semifinalist Jax Donahue, Former Last Slinger Champion Delena Humble-Fischer, and San Diego cocktail legend Christian Sliger. Their expertise will help elevate the competition, while the $500 cash prize for the winning bartender ensures that the stakes are high.
Throughout the evening, guests will try multiple cocktails featuring Suncliffe Gin-based creations. There’s also a raffle, where each drink purchase earns a ticket for a chance to win a featured cocktail from the competition. DJs Mitch Freedom and Joel Maduro will keep the energy high, while Last Laugh Tattoo will be on hand for flash tattoos. Food will be provided by Amoy Sol and Freak Brothers Pizza.
A dedicated Suncliffe cocktail menu will be available at The Brill Line, and a special Cultivaro Amaro pop-up bar will feature the latest release from Suncliffe. This year’s Showdown promises to be the biggest yet, with even more cocktails, more community, and a few surprises still in store.
“It’s about uplifting the incredible talent in Arizona’s bar community and creating space for connection,” Founder Ryan Lawrence said. “We’re making this year the biggest yet: more cocktails, more community, and a few surprises still to come.”
