Tiffany’s resident expert in all things daddy-related, Butch Pellant, sales manager for the Scottsdale Fashion Square store, is helping dads ease the transition into parenthood with the presentation of a mommy-to-be gift. (This gift has also been coined the “push gift.”) “The person who told me about this gift is really a good friend of my wife’s—she actually hosted [my wife’s] first baby shower,” says Pellant, a father of three. “I thought alright, I understand what that [gift] means. All I knew was that I wanted it to be really special and have a lot of impact. So I thought diamond studs were the best gift.”
And like the gift, Pellant wanted the card to be as memorable. “I had written the card as if it came from the baby,” he says. It said: “I am looking forward to meeting you. You are going to be a wonderful mommy.” Needless to say his wife was blown away. For Pellant, who had the gift presented to his wife at her baby shower, says he could have also presented it in the delivery room. And like any good husband, Pellant pays the trend forward by telling other expectant parents. “There are a lot of dads and moms out there who have never heard of this new trend,” he says. Back on the sales floor, Pellant says the hardest decision for most dads is choosing the perfect piece of jewelry. He suggests that dads start out by determining a price point. “I also think with this gift you need to consider the lifestyle of the mom,” says Meredeth Moss, Group Director for Tiffany & Co. “Maybe she likes rings; we also have necklaces, bracelets and charms (in sterling silver and gold).” To be more fashion-forward, one can also personalize the gift by engraving. In the end, it will be the sentiment that means the most to mom.
