Mane Attraction Salon at the Biltmore Plaza introduces its latest hair trend, hair chalking, which allows clients to chalk their hair for instant color. Kendall Ongof Mane Attraction Salon says it’s a great way to “try out” fun fashion colors without the commitment. “Chalk will stay in the hair until it is shampooed out. The healthier the hair, the easier it is to wash out.” Fearful the chalk will ruin your ‘do? Well, fear no more. If you apply the chalk correctly, from roots to ends, your hair will maintain its healthy glow.

Hair Pre-Style before Chalking 1

Starting at $61, the Phoenix salon will shampoo, condition, blow dry and chalk your hair. Additionally, they sell the chalk, The Colors Bugs, for $21. Hop on the bandwagon of fun and funky colors but be the first among your friends to be chalked-out. Here is a step-by-step process to chalk your hair yourself. Happy chalking!

Hair Apply Wax before Chalking 1

  1. You want to start with a product designed for your hair, not for your sidewalk, like the Color Bug.

  1. Apply to dry, pre-styled hair.

  1. Slightly dampen the section to be chalked with water, styling spray or styling wax. The chalk adheres to styling wax the best.

  1. Always apply chalk down the strand of hair; moving from roots to ends. The more you apply, the more vibrant the color. After applying the Color Bug, shake the hair out to remove any excess chalk. Use hairspray to seal in the color. It can be messy, so wear gloves or be sure to wash your hands after applying. Also, wear a cape or put a towel over yourself to protect your clothes

  1. Voilà! Enjoy your new chalked-do.
