The Benefits Of Gratitude With Carolyn Wellington

Gratitude is something that we tend to just let slip off our tongues flippantly and do not give it a second thought, so this year I have decided to really focus on the benefits of gratitude and how it can help in reaching those goals that you have set yourself.

Showing your gratitude can be a wonderful way to spread positive feelings in the world around you. When you think about it, reaching your goals starts with a single positive thought.

How do you feel when someone expresses his or her gratitude to you for something you did? It should make you feel good about yourself. Positive feelings can lift you up, boost your enthusiasm, and motivate you to want to achieve even more.

Feeling grateful for what you have can also produce good feelings and help maintain your drive toward your goals.

Gratitude can have some seriously positive effects and here are just a few.

Benefits of gratitude:

  1. Reaching your goals. When you feel grateful, it tends to be a lasting and selfless feeling. It is much more than just a brief burst of positive energy; it has staying power that will provide a great boost for you to reach your goals.

•When you express your gratitude to others, ensure that you are open, expressive and have good eye contact. Also, make sure your body is facing them. Body language is just as important as eye contact or the words that come out of your mouth. People do not know what you are thinking, so hearing it can make all the difference and give them that feel good factor.

  2. Strengthening relationships. There are many ways you can express your gratitude to your loved ones, including saying, “Thank you,” writing a letter, or giving them a thoughtful gift. When you learn to avoid taking your loved ones for granted, you will have a long-lasting and loving relationship. This also works with friends and work colleagues. To get the best out of someone it is important to appreciate them and be grateful for what they bring into your life, whether it be good, bad, or indifferent, because every person plays a part in your journey to becoming the best version of you, so remember to thank them for playing that small part.

•Showing gratitude works both ways. Learn how to effectively express your gratitude and to receive it as well.

  3. Improve communication. Gratitude can mean better communication all around. By expressing your gratitude to friends, family and strangers, they will be more likely to show an interest in helping you, too.

•Gratitude is such a powerful thing. It can change how you see life as a whole; it can also create a good solid grounding and appreciation for people and the things around you. Communication is key to reaching your goals, and to reach your goals you also need a good support network, being thankful and showing gratitude to those around you, can create greater friendship, stronger support, greater productivity and better understanding.

  4. Cherishing memories. Oh, you all know how I love a journal. So, grab yourself a Gratitude journal, then you can cherish and preserve memories positively. You will be able to enjoy your memories repeatedly when you read and share all the happy times with friends and family in the future.

Show Your Gratitude Every Day

Showing gratitude to others is something that you also benefit from. When you show your gratitude every day, it helps you to focus more on your own needs and wants as well as changing the way you think.

It helps you to appreciate what you currently have in your life and helps to keep your thoughts positive. We cannot remain positive all the time and sometimes when negative thoughts creep in it can sometimes be overwhelming. Do not be too hard on yourself just because you have them. It does not mean you are a bad person or have failed. The aim is to strive to keep the negativity to a minimum with the help of a grateful attitude and using your journal can help to maintain this.

One way to show your gratitude every day is to remind yourself of the big picture (your vision) when a negative thought shows itself. If a petty argument with your spouse makes you feel angry and heated, take a deep breath, take time out and think for a moment. Remember that the argument is not permanent, so remember why you are in this relationship and be grateful. Showing gratitude can help break down barriers and resolve issues allowing you to move on confidently and feel blessed.

None of us knows how long we have on this earth so it is important to cherish the time that we do have and enjoy the benefits of living each day as positively as we can, being thankful for what we have and appreciating life.
