Currently sitting at the airport getting ready to fly from Phoenix to Salt Lake City and then DRIVE ,yes drive, 8 hours to Montana. Crazy I know, but I can’t wait for some good old fashion family time. I figured this would be a perfect time to share some of my favorite and simple healthy travel tips.
-Pack some of your favorite snacks. You will save money and avoid the temptation of eating all the unhealthy foods that are available. I am currently munching on dried mango but some of my other favorite are RX protein bars, almonds ,string cheese or beefy jerky.
-Pack some mini bands, jump rope or another kind of compact piece of workout equipment. This will help you keep up with your workout routine without it being an inconvenience. You can pull it out when you have a few extra minutes.
-Use a portion control guide when eating out. Most people who travel end up eating out for most meals which leads to over eating. My favorite portion control guide is “My plate” you want your plate to be 1/2 veggies 1/4 protein 1/8 Starchy Carbs 1/8 Healthy fats. If you try to guide your meals off of that then you will be eating the correct portions and sticking to your healthy eating. If the “My plate” rule seems too tedious for a vacation just make it your goal to eat lean, clean and green.
-Become a fitness tourist! Tour the city while getting your workout on. Find the most popular gym or studio in the area and take one of their group classes. Find the best hike and hit the trails. Find a well-known park and go for a jog or do a fun circuit. You will get an experience and you don’t have miss your workout. Win win!
