Know of any amazing “green” homes you think should be shown off?
The Arizona Chapter Tours Committee, as part of the Host Committee for the 2009 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, is seeking sustainable “green” buildings and projects to feature in tours during Greenbuild ‘09. The conference is taking place November 11-13 2009 and will bring 30,000 professionals to Phoenix in the fields of construction, energy, community planning, sustainability and other related fields to hear top international speakers and see the latest technology.
The committee is seeking both Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified and non-LEED Certified projects in Northern, Central and Southern Arizona. Projects should exhibit innovative and environmentally sustainable design, planning and construction. The selected projects will be featured either as a Greenbuild Physical Tour or a Greenbuild Virtual Tour. Some projects may be featured in both categories.
“The ideal projects will peak interest, educate, initiate dialogue and represent a significant contribution to the community and its surrounding region. From sustainable examples dating back to ancient Arizona, vintage modernism, and into the future – these projects are among those deserving of recognition and are true Arizona treasures,” says Dorina Bustamante, Chair of the Tour Committee for the Arizona Host Committee. “Our group will objectively assemble 15 to 20 physical tours and cultivate an impressive video archive database of virtual tours to be preserved for historical record.
The Tour Committee is committed to identifying and submitting a diverse cross-section of project sites throughout the state to tour during Greenbuild 2009. We will then recommend this list of projects to the USGBC National headquarters that will make the final decisions.”
Deadline for applications is noon, April 16th.

Greenbuild is the fastest-growing national conference and expo devoted to transforming the built environment. During the three-day event, opportunities will be available for the public to connect to this all-important conversation. Phoenix was selected as the host city in part because of the presence of a strong USGBC chapter, the new light rail line, and the new convention center facility being a green building project that earned a Silver certification rating under the USGBC LEED Green Building Rating System.
I think it’s great that AZ is getting this attention, in the way of eco-friendly building.
Yay for Phoenix for being so green! I’d love to see some of these eco-friendly homes, I bet there’s some really cool designs out there.

30,000?! that’s a pretty big conference…
I think you should include the “Beaulieu Residence” in your tour of Green Houses. It is a truly amazing home powered by solar energy and build with non-polluting methods and hearth friendly materials. The Beaulieu Residence is built among the boulders in North Scottsdale. It includes 4000 ft of livable areas serrounded by desert plants and natural features. Rainwater collection and storarge system are used for irrigation and cooling of outdoor living areas. The home is oriented to the south for active and passive solar strategies. Exposed stained concrete flooring. Solar assisted pool and spa heating/cooling systems with retractable pool cover and zero water loss backwash system. It has also a recycling and composting system.

This is great! My sister is a design major at ASU, and this is all I have heard about recently. She has to do a lot of her designs that are eco-friendly!
