How did you get started in the design/build industry? I got started in the interior design industry 26 years ago, after moving from Manhattan to Arizona. I was a clothing designer, in NYC with my own label, Jamie Herzlinger, and a fourth generation in the garment center. I sometimes will see that eBay will have my clothes for sale, and I wonder does that makes me a has-been or still relevant?
What is your favorite project in Arizona? I don’t have a favorite project in Arizona as all my projects are my favorite. I am blessed to be able to design such amazing homes for so many wonderful clients.
What inspires you and your work? Travel is my source for inspiration, as well as plays and operas as the stage and set design is an amazing talent and skill set.
What is something timeless every home should have? Every home should have something that the homeowner actually cherishes and can rhapsodize about. So often I go into homes and they feel like showrooms filled with objects that have no relevancy to the life or style of the client to homeowner
What is considered trendy in homes at this time? I think a Cape Cod style meets industrial meets modern is what is the trendiest right now.
What do you consider your biggest professional accomplishment? My biggest professional accomplishment is having been very lucky to have built businesses in NYC and Arizona,
What advice do you have for young people or students hoping to pursue a design/build career? My advice for young people is to be mentored by someone or firm that you respect.
