< Previous38 AZFOOTHILLS.COM Feb Issue 2.indd 531/23/20 4:32 PM My Specialty Melody Sanchez of Design De Amore on how to create a Hollywood glam look in fi ve easy steps. STEP ONE: INSPIRATION The key to a good look is a well-thought-out plan. Finding inspiration is the key to a well-planned look and I fi nd mine everywhere, but specifi cally in arts and entertainment. I pretty much leave my TV on E! when I’m home! My other personal favorite places to fi nd inspiration are from old Hollywood fi lms and even classic Disney Princess vibes. Once you fi nd your inspiration, I highly recommend putting all of the images and information onto a Pinterest board or create a Style Guide to keep you on track. STEP TWO: MAKEUP I was inspired for this look by Kim Kardashian and her wedding-day makeup. It was soft and subtle, yet so elegant. When I saw her makeup, I knew the direction I wanted to go with accessories and simple elegance. STEP THREE: HAIRSTYLE My newest and favorite style inspiration is model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. I feel her look is often reminiscent of the old Hollywood glam era I mentioned before. I love adding a pop of personal and modern to style to these looks. STEP FOUR: WARDROBE As a wardrobe stylist, it’s my job to provide every detail of an outfi t the model will be wearing. I was inspired by Kardashian’s wedding day look but wanted to tone down the formality of it as we were aiming to do a simple styled shoot in studio. I was able to fi nd inspiration that matched the all-white look with rose gold tones. STEP FIVE: ACCESSORIES + PROPS The pearl, large barrette and marble/gold trends should never leave, in my opinion! Right now you can pick up some great pieces at most clothing stores and boutiques. We went to Nordstrom for our accessories but highly recommend these from the amazing and local Lifestyled Co. Coincidentally, it’s been more than three decades since any new treatments have been midline glioma. This incurable and devastating condition accounts for 75 percent of all pediatric brainstem tumors, and it claims the lives of most victims within just 12 months of diagnosis. Following last year’s Vino con Stelle gala, Gateway’s awarded a $1.5 million grant to study a new immunotherapy approach for the treatment of DIPG. Nicknamed the CUPID peptide vaccine combined with a checkpoint Inhibitor for trial is being led by Cynthia J. Wetmore, MD, PhD. A renowned physician-scientist and neuro-oncologist, Dr. Wetmore serves as division chief of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Having dedicated her more than 20-year career to treating DIPG and caring for children battling brain tumors, she is giving new hope to families of children like 9-year-old Luke Carusillo. been living with an inoperable brain tumor since he was diagnosed in March 2015 at age 4. Doctors attribute his health and success to medication being administered as part of another Gateway-funded early-phase clinical cancer trial based at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Wetmore, her colleagues at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and experts at Gateway are hopeful that the CUPID study will be the breakthrough that gives children diagnosed with DIPG similar success. Of course, none of this would be possible without support from a global philanthropic community that Help Gateway bring to fruition clinical trials that have the potential to shape the future of cancer care and end cancer as we know it. Join like-minded philanthropists, physicians and grateful patients at the fourth-annual Vino con Stelle on Friday, April 17 at Scottsdale Hanger One in Scottsdale. Insider's Guide: AZ Giving CUPID Takes Aim BY KRISTINE M. BURNETT The only thing constant is change. Unless, however, you’re talking about treatments for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a rare and fatal brain cancer that develops in the brainstem of children ages 3 and 13. With funding from Gateway for Cancer Research to launch an innovative clinical trial at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, that’s about to change. AFM: Tell us about Junior League of Phoenix. WB: Junior League of Phoenix is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving volunteers. We are more than 1,000 members strong locally and one of 291 chapters in four countries totaling more than 140,000 women. AFM: What are some of the highlights from the past 85 years? WB: The Junior League of Phoenix has been instrumental in changing the fabric of our community since we initially incorporated as the Welfare community. AFM: How does Junior League of Phoenix develop women into leaders and impact the Phoenix community? WB: Junior League helps develop women by hands-on training in how to and bolts training: how to create an agenda and run a meeting, how to solicit a budget, how to develop relationships with community partners and then how to mentor and empower women. Other training is more strategic: how assisted many community partners in order to help them move their mission forward. AFM: How are you celebrating the 85th anniversary? WB: To commemorate our 85 years of sustainable community change, we in our community will be able to eat when school is not in session. Once the needle on pressing social issues.
