A typical day in my life includes… I usually wake up early in the morning and stretch and meditate for five minutes to clear my head and body for the day. I then walk our family dog, Walter, around the neighborhood for some fresh air. When I get home, I pour a cup of coffee to enjoy while getting ready for work. My workday mostly involves meetings and some desk duties. At the end of the day, I enjoy having dinner with my mother if she is in town and socializing with friends.
I was born… in Hermosillo, City in Sonora, Mexico
My favorite thing about Arizona… I love that you can do anything here. We have everything from beautiful lakes, mountains to hike, to major natural attractions like Sedona and the Grand Canyon in the north. We’re also not a far drive from my home country, Mexico, which is great.
I’m listening to… I love 80’s rock anthems and recently attended the Madonna concert which solidified my love of 80’s music. I believe 80s music is still popular because it is truly innovative and fresh and brings a lot of great memories and nostalgia of simpler times.
My family… My brother and sister live in Mexico, but they come here to visit often. My mother also splits her time between Phoenix and Hermosillo, but she is now starting to spend more time in Phoenix with me now and I enjoy her company.
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be… My father. Since he passed and I never got to say goodbye I would give anything to share a good meal and heartfelt conversation with him, again.
One thing I cannot live without… Live music and entertainment, friends and camaraderie. I love going out with friends and experiencing in-person gatherings.
When I was younger, I wanted to be… A business owner and entrepreneur, which is what I’m doing now. I think my younger self would be proud of where I am.
I’m inspired by… Compassionate people – their enthusiasm is contagious.
The person/people who motivate(s) me is/are… My family and the friendships that have grown into family. Being surrounded by people who love me and who I love encourages me to do my best in every aspect of my life, from work to taking care of my health, every day.
If I could change anything in the world, it would be… Empowering more people to respect and give grace to our elders and our children.
The perfect day would be… A sunny day spent outside while enjoying brunch with friends. In the afternoon, I would love barhopping across town and ending the day with some good, live music.
My first job was… A bookkeeper.
My favorite escape… Sedona wineries. Theyare great places to unwind with a glass of wine while enjoying the surrounding scenery.
My life… is great. I can’t complain.
I’m currently working on… remodeling my home and leveraging my rental properties. At work I’m drafting a business proposal, financing a project, and managing my firm, Versus. Most of my days also consist of caring for my mother and spending quality time with her.
Always… working.

Biggest Dream… I can’t say I have one big dream for my life asI really enjoy living in the moment. I want to continue to grow my business to be a success and continue to work in the non-profit space, which is near and dear to my heart. As a Latina woman in a male-dominated industry, I am invested in helping our community.

Karina Felix is highly respected in her industry – accounting, human resources and finance. With more than 15 years of extensive knowledge and experience working with rules and regulations for 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations, and protection of tax-exempt status, Karina has recently taken a leap to launch her own consulting firm – Versus Consultants. She brings financial and accounting expertise and an expansive background in human resources, specifically concentrated in the non-profit space. Karina established Versus with a mission to empower organizations and businesses seeking the expertise of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Human Resources (HR) director without the commitment and expense of employing a full-time, salaried professional. Currently, Karina is supporting the community as secretary treasurer for the Phoenix Conservatory of Music and a board member of Unlimited Potential in Arizona.
