City you live in: I am in between San Francisco and Phoenix at the moment. The dream is to be based full time in San Francisco and bounce back and forth from Phoenix and New York!
A typical day in my life includes…
a typical day usually starts with me waking up and meditating, then heading to the gym for a quick workout and from there I’ll head back home to check my emails and start my work day.It honestly really just varies on what I have going on. One week I can be art directing a photo shoot in Sonoma then the next week working on a special project in San Diego or LA. My life is a bit all over the place. I kind of just go with the flow and make moves based on where my projects land.
I was born…
in Phoenix, AZ some thirty years ago.
My favorite thing about Arizona…
the sunsets! The sky and the colors are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen.
I’m listening to…
honestly, it’s a mash up depending on my mood. Right now, I’m currently in my archives vibing off of Solange’s True album. When I’m in my “get it” mood, I’m listening to City Girls “Act Up” or Sawatee’s “My Type.” Those two songs get me going!
My family…
is my foundation and a huge part of who I am.
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…
Barack and Michelle Obama, of course!
One thing I cannot live without…
my faith.
When I was younger, I wanted to be…
a Broadway performer. I even went as far as studying at The American Ballet Center in New York one summer when I was in high school. That was my ultimate dream until I realized how much I truly enjoyed fashion and the art of storytelling through wardrobing and styling clients.
I’m inspired by…
everything, but mostly my discoveries when I’m traveling. This past fall I spent forty days in Europe, specifically Paris for Fashion Week, followed by London, Amsterdam, and Lisboa. It was a sensory overload of art, culture, and inspiration! I was introduced to the amazing talent that is Pierre Soulanges and Mark Rothko.
The one person who motivates me is…
my great-grandmother, Kara V. Shepherd. Although she is no longer with us, her life story always motivates me. She was one of the first black women to own a retail shop in New York on Fifth Avenue, and was the head seamstress for Gimbels Brothers Department Stores (now operated under the Saks Fifth Avenue umbrella). She spent her summers in Paris, studying art and learning French. She was also the reason why my family moved to Phoenix, as she was one of the first African Americans to purchase a home in the early 70’s in the Biltmore area, breaking the color line in Phoenix.
If I could change anything in the world, it would be…
better gun control.
The perfect day would be…
sleeping in until 9, waking up to cuddles with my partner then having breakfast; fresh eggs and avocado with lots coffee and mimosas. Then we head off to go wine tasting in Napa, afterwards we rest by the pool and watch the sunset. Later that evening we will prepare for dinner with friends; there is tons of laughter, vino, and a cheeseboard.
My first job was…
I was always embarrassed to tell this story, but my first job was at Chuck E. Cheese. I was 16 and I worked in the showroom. And yes, I did dress up as the mouse!
My favorite escape…
sometimes it’s just as simple as plugging in my air pods and hitting the gym. Other times it’s a trip to the ocean to just sit and reflect.
My life…
is a mixture of peaks and valleys, but through it all I have managed to keep a positive outlook and learn from each lesson.
I’m currently working on…
video content for and IGTV campaign with a skincare brand called Curology.
Always…
do your best, be impeccable with your words, try not to take things personally, and smile (it’s contagious).
Never…
give up on yourself! We are all born with the gift of choice and each day you have an opportunity to choose anew.
Favorite Quote…
“Trust the process.” It’s easier said than done, I know, but it’s something I am currently living by and working on.
Biggest Dream…
owning a retail space with curated items from my travels, that also offers personal styling and interior styling services.
My Pet Peeve(s)…
pessimists, dirty finger nails, and being late.
