The Reimagined Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tucson is Now Open

The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tucson has undergone a remarkable transformation, led by Jill Cole of Cole Martinez Curtis and Associates. This extensive renovation, overseen by CMCA Design, was executed in three phases and aimed to enhance the guest experience while remaining cost-efficient and maintaining the essence of place that defines this iconic resort.

The most significant changes were made to the public spaces, which have been reimagined to create an inviting and modern atmosphere. A focal point is the resort’s newly redesigned lobby. It now features custom chandeliers, contemporary furnishings, and reconfigured seating arrangements that invite guests to relax and socialize.

Additionally, the Grab & Go Café was relocated and integrated with the resort’s retail space for greater convenience, offering guests a seamless experience. Perhaps the most stunning update is the repositioned Bar and Lounge. With panoramic views of the nearby mountains, the space now boasts a 16-foot-wide screen equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system, providing an immersive experience for guests to enjoy.

The resort’s dining areas also received extensive upgrades. Expanded seating and a semi-private dining area, defined by custom laser-cut walls and ceilings, provide a more intimate setting. A lower-level dining space now seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor elements, anchored by a bar table featuring a sculptural focal tree, creating an elegant yet relaxed dining experience.

The guest rooms and suites were redesigned with a sophisticated color palette inspired by the desert landscape surrounding the resort. Cool earth tones, blues, and greens dominate the interiors, evoking the serenity of the desert. While preserving existing architectural elements and case goods, the design team introduced new furnishings, custom Axminster carpets, and blue-toned metallic cork wall coverings.

The addition of fireplaces, indoor and outdoor catering bars, and custom embossed leather bed walls (in the San Xavier Suite) add to the luxurious feel of the rooms, offering guests both comfort and a sense of refined style.

Throughout the renovation, the interior design drew heavily on the textures, colors, and natural beauty of the surrounding desert landscape and wildlife. Light and shadow now play across textured surfaces, creating an ever-changing visual experience, while accents of color highlight the otherwise soothing backgrounds. The goal was to maintain a serene environment, perfect for guests to relax, work, or unwind while being immersed in the stunning desert scenery.

The resort’s two most opulent suites, the La Paloma and San Xavier Suites, received extraordinary upgrades that elevate them into luxurious retreats. The La Paloma Suite, the second-largest of the two, now includes a spacious kitchen and dining room, perfect for hosting intimate gatherings.

The suite also features a private patio with a Jacuzzi, complemented by a trellis adorned with a decorative laser-cut screen. This unique design element provides privacy from the balcony above and creates playful shadows across the walls and ground during the day, adding to the suite’s allure.

The renovation of the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa has successfully transformed the property into a modern oasis that blends luxury with the natural beauty of Tucson’s desert landscape. Through thoughtful design choices, a harmonious blend of old and new elements, and a focus on creating a welcoming atmosphere, the resort has elevated the guest experience while remaining true to its roots.
