Being born and raised in Southern California, I have spent many a weekend in San Diego county. Whether visiting amusement park attractions, relaxing at the beach for a family getaway, or simply visiting friends at San Diego State University, I have always had a love for the city.
So when The Cassara Carlsbad reached out to me, I jumped at the opportunity to check out this stunning resort. Now that California has lifted the quarantine order and San Diego weather being at its prime. For Arizona residents, it is a perfect time to take a drive and indulge in California comfort.
The Cassara is stunning from the moment you walk into the lobby. After recent renovations, it is spotless from floor to ceiling. The resort takes sanitation and cleanliness very seriously; each room is sanitized, and they provide proof that no one has entered your room before visiting.
The best part of The Cassara is the room options for guests. For a quick visit for two or a more extended “staycation” for individuals wanting to work outside of their home. The Cassara Traditional and Premium room options are perfect for you!
Have a family? Their two-room family suite (main Parlor room plus lock-off) with balcony or patio offers plenty of space for the whole family, remote work or schooling, or both! Each suite’s sizeable floor-to-ceiling sliding glass patio/balcony door provides lots of natural light and coastal air.
Upon entry, you will find the main parlor room sitting area with a couch and large TV that connects and opens up to the King bed area, a second TV, and a work desk area with a comfy chair (no more 9 to 5 back pain).
Within the parlor room is a separate doored bedroom which offers two Twin Beds and a third TV. Extra-large patio or balcony has a seating area to relax with two chairs and a table— and some suites offering coastal views.
Plus, the flower fields season in Carlsbad is almost here. It runs from March 1 through May 9, 2021. The resort is perched right above the fields, so add ANOTHER reason to visit this gorgeous property.
Dining
As of March 1, San Diego County is now allowing outdoor and indoor dining for locals and visitors. However, the 7Mile Kitchen, at their sister Sheraton property across the street, offers to-go and indoor dining options for lunch and dinner. What’s excellent is The Cassara provides a free shuttle to and from the two properties. You don’t even have to use a single bit of gas!
The artisanal pizzas were my personal favorite. You have to try the carbonara pizza; the farm egg bechamel is just amazing! My cousin had the Baja tacos; the “fresh catch” lives up to its name. The daily fish options straight from the Pacific ocean were fantastic. You can’t find fresh seafood like that all the way here in the Phoenix Valley.
I loved the fact that a Karl Strauss Brewery was in the same parking lot as The Cassara. If you haven’t heard of the Karl Strauss Brewery, look them up, they have some of the BEST California-craft beers I’ve ever had throughout the state. It’s perfect for a quick beer after a day of activities.
The Crossings at Carlsbad
For golf lovers, this coastal 6,835-yard public golf course designed by Greg Nash features multiple options and terrain to challenge golfers’ skill levels. The Crossings at Carlsbad is an 18-hole championship golf course, nestled among the natural habitat and wildlife on more than 400 acres of Carlsbad’s coastal terrain and named for the five bridges – or crossings.
Conveniently located near the hotel, they provide guests of The Cassara Carlsbad a complimentary shuttle to and from the course, in which you can enjoy the cool ocean breezes. At the same time, you play a round or two or visit the clubhouse with a restaurant.
Carlsbad Village
The biggest attraction for San Diego County is the beaches and beach communities. The Cassara is a mere five to ten-minute drive to Carlsbad Village. It is the stereotypical “beach community” that we all know and love about beachfront areas.
Carlsbad Village sits on a bluff overlooking miles of beautiful Southern California beaches. It’s easy to park in the Village, grab some food to go and venture down to a relaxing day on the beach.
Don’t want to get all sandy, or are you already a bit sunburnt from the day before? Carlsbad Village has dozens of restaurants, art galleries, and unique boutiques all in one area.
I’m more of a lowkey pub, and dive bar kind of guy. the Coyote Bar & Grill and the Mas Fina Cantina were the two I gravitated towards during my stay. But, again, I cannot explain the diverse degree of options for visitors. If the sensory overload is a bit too much for you at first, then the “A Taste of Carlsbad: Food, Wine, & Walking Experience” is something to add to your list.
Become a local in 3 hours! You will experience delectable foods from authentic one-of-a-kind specialty restaurants while receiving an insider’s view of Carlsbad’s history, culture, and architecture that defines the Carlsbad Village. It was so much fun and a great way to get an intro to the area.
