Foodie news roundup for the week of August 12.
How did you celebrate National Filet Mignon Day?
Save the date: August 26, Larry Fitzgerald teams with Morton’s The Steakhouse for Fitz’s Supper Club fundraiser.
Starting today, guests of Scottsdale’s Los Sombreros (pictured) are invited to sample 10 of Azucena Tovar’s new menu items by ordering one single tasting menu. Priced at $50 and serving two people, this 10-course menu serves small, sampler-sized portions of the new menu’s additions, including shrimp papaya salad tossed with greens in a honey-lime dressing; pork loin served with tamarind molé; and Pechuga Rellena, a grilled chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese and Huitlacoche served over a chipotle tomato sauce. Plus, a selection of cocktails are only $5 each.
Friday is National Bratwurst Day, and Scottsdale’s Brat Haüs is getting in on the celebration. Brat Haüs will be giving away free mini brat “sliders” all day and cooking a 50-ft. brat at 6 p.m. with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the ALS Association of Arizona. Each inch of the huge brat will be $1 so the more you eat, the more money is raised.
Different Pointe of View at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs has announced its “Beat the Heat” prix-fixe menu for $39.95. The menu features favorites like lobster bisque, grilled Cedar River marinated hanger steak and classic Tahitian vanilla bean crème brulee. And–for those mid-week visitors–a complimentary glass of wine will be available to enjoy with the menu.
Through Sept. 8, Gordon Biersch is celebrating its 25th anniversary with the launch of a small plates menu (Gordon Biersch dishes starting at $4.50) and a special beer Blonde Bock which was one of the original brews served. Plus, the restaurant–with four Valley locations–is also hosting $2.50 Tuesdays throughout August and $2.50 pricing on any Gordon Biersch draft beer.
