Update: Nicky’s Week Fundraiser at RA Sushi Bar

Update: Ra Sushi raised more than $150,000 nationwide for the Nicky’s Week fundraiser and St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. The goal was $110,000. The five Valley locations contributed $39,000 to the cause. All funds raised will help pay for the development of treatment and cures for diseases such as brain tumors, leukemia, sickle cell disease and other life-threatening illnesses in children.

Yesterday marked the beginning of the fifth annual Nicky’s Week at Ra Sushi Bar, which benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The week-long fundraising event was inspired by Nicky Mailliard, a Scottsdale teen and St. Jude patient who passed away from brain cancer in 2005 at the age of 13. Through May 30, all–yes, ALL–proceeds from the sale of Ra’s edamame, Tootsy Maki sushi rolls (my favorite Ra roll), Shrimp Shumai, FIJI Water, Red Bull, The Republic of Tea and other select cocktails will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Ra Sushi Bar has raised nearly $400,000 for St. Jude since 2005, and has a goal to donate an additional $110,000 to the charity this year.
In addition to ordering delicious eats for a worthy cause, Scottsdale’s Kierland Commons Ra location will host several celebrity bartenders. (Note that all Ra locations are taking part in Nicky’s Week, though.) Here’s the schedule:
Wed., May 27
6 to 7 p.m.
Former Phoenix Coyotes players Sean Burke and Tyson Nash face off in a “Bartender Battle” with the goal to score additional funds for St. Jude.
Thurs., May 28
6 to 7 p.m.
Mix 96.9 FM morning radio personality and six-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist Amy Van Dyken will mix it up as a guest bartender. Amy will partner with Jim Mailliard, father of Nicky Mailliard (a former St. Jude patient and inspiration for Nicky’s Week), behind the bar to raise money for St. Jude. http://rasushi.com/nickysweek/index.html.
