Kneaders Bakery & Café is proud to partner with Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) during the month of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, on a campaign to fight childhood cancer. Dr. Joshua Schiffman, M.D., with HCI and the University of Utah, is conducting groundbreaking research into elephant DNA which may unlock the cure to childhood cancer. (Elephants almost never get cancer because they have 40 copies of a gene that prevents tumors. Humans only have two.) Throughout the month of September, all 52 Kneaders locations, including its 16 stores in Arizona, will be selling elephant-shaped sugar cookies (pictured). One-hundred percent of the sales will go toward Schiffman’s research.
Every Sunday starting Sept. 11, The Gladly’s Sunday Supper Party is weekly dinner gathering with a table-sharing serving of appetizers, sides and entree–all served at once, for $25 per person. Expect the menu to change weekly and boast the best of Chef Bernie Kantak’s signature comfort-cooking style, so stop in each Sunday for some new, inventive eats showcasing the best of the season.

Chompie’s is holding a fundraiser for the Glendale Firefighters Charities on Thursday, Sept. 8, to commemorate the official opening of its new Glendale restaurant and to pay tribute to the 9/11 anniversary. On Thursday, Sept. 8, Chompie’s will donate $5 from each one dozen bagels sold at the Glendale location to the charity.
Grimaldi’s is launching a new Stoking Social Hour menu (the hour each afternoon when Grimaldi’s has to stop serving pizza to stoke its fire in the oven). Monday through Friday, from 3:30 to 6 p.m., Grimaldi’s will be offering a new menu that features discounts on beverages and select food items. Included in the menu is the Coalition, a featured bottle of wine, plus a choice of bruschetta trio or a small antipasto. This month, they will be featuring their Mill Grade and the Coalition will be $30.
Twisted Grove Parlor + Bar offers a happy hour seven days a week, from 3 to 6 p.m. During Twisted Hour, sip and savor $4 (16 oz.) craft beers, $5 mixed drinks, $6 shandies and $7 fine cocktails and wines by the glass and a food menu that is exclusively available from the kitchen only during Twisted Hour (like a grilled cheese board and prime rib slider).
Salty Sow will be hosting its third of four beer dinners in collaboration with Huss Brewing Company on Thursday, Sept. 15 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy a four-course tasting menu paired with beer selections. $39 per person. For reservations, call 602.795.9463.
Tavern Americana is gearing up for football season with a variety of specials every Saturday and Sunday. The specials include pitchers of draft beer for just $8, bottomless Bloodies for just $12 with penny refills and Happy Hour all day on Sundays. The restaurant will be open on Saturdays and Sundays during football season starting at 10 a.m. The restaurant will also feature specific entrées for each team in headline games.
When students bring in their tests or papers that have an A letter grade and buy a cupcake at Sprinkles Scottsdale, they will get one free. This will be valid every Tuesday in September. Half Moon Windy City Sports Grill in Phoenix announces its second annual Phoenix Firefighters Burgers, Brews & Brawn Servathon in remembrance and commemoration of those involved in 9/11 with proceeds to benefit one of its favorite charities, the Arizona Search Dogs. Reservations are required for this very special dinner in order to reserve a Phoenix Firefighter as your server that evening. Twenty percent of the proceeds from sales for the entire day will go to Arizona Search Dogs as well as all the tips the firefighters collect serving tables that evening.
