Foodie news roundup for the week of June 26.
Taking cocktailing to the next level, The Gladly in Phoenix now features six craft cocktails on tap (pictured, mint julep), including classic cocktails with an innovative twist. (Think a Manhattan with maple and tobacco bitters and a Thai Margarita with tamarind and chili sea salt and more.) Each of the cocktails run $12 but are also available during the weekday happy hour, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., for $8 each. In addition to those six cocktails on draft, The Gladly also added eight more new drinks to their libations menu, including Buttered Rum Punch with agricole rum, the smoky Apple of My Islay with 10-year single malt Scotch, American Spirit with 100 percent rye whiskey, and more.
Starting next week, Pita Jungle will launch its new Summer Seasonal Kitchen Crafts Menu featuring seven new dishes, including avocado hummus, Moroccan gazpacho, turkey kebab koobiideh pita, beef asada shawarma with avocado hummus, grilled chicken with zucchini quinoa, fresh ahi tuna salad and pain perdu.
In honor of National Mai Tai Day, set sail to Hula’s Modern Tiki in Scottsdale June 30 (aka National Mia Tai Day) through July 3 to enjoy a selection of both modern and throwback Mai Tai cocktails for $8 each, or match your Mai Tai with your choice of two-courses of custom paired Island-style eats for $28.
Through September, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria welcomes back its ever-popular Tuesday Tastings featuring half off glasses, carafes and bottles of wine every Tuesday. (This promotion excludes house wine, but does include sangria.)
Chef Ian Ray of Tavern Americana is introducing a variety of new summer weekend specials. Enjoy featured appetizers and entrees (think Southwest egg rolls, fried pickles and buffalo chicken dip), available after 5 p.m. on weekends, as well as Sunday Suppers (featured beer-braised brats, bacon-wrapped meatloaf and much more), available after 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Market Street Kitchen, located at DC Ranch, has a variety of new menu items just in time for summer. Enjoy the new summer seafood boil, Dungeness crab salad, steak tartare and much more.
The Kitchen Kit recipe box has a new offering that is perfect for a upcoming July 4 family gatherings: Blueberry Coffee Cobbler. The Kitchen Kit features one-of-a-kind recipes using Arizona-made ingredients (this box includes goods from Press Coffee, Go LB Salt and Hayden Flour Mills). This summer edition goes on sale June 30 at ReadBite.com. The Kitchen Kit is available for $35 plus shipping.
Southern Rail will celebrate the classic American dish in honor of National Fried Chicken Day (July 6) with its Birds & Bubbles event. The event will last from 5 to 10 p.m., and guests who order Southern Rail’s beloved fried chicken will receive a complimentary glass of bubbles. Southern Rail’s fried chicken dish features Yukon gold mashed potatoes and corn on the cob for $21.
BRIO Tuscan Grille is celebrating the season with The Art of Grilling. Available now through July 23, guests can enjoy dishes like grilled half chicken, grilled branzino, New York strip steak and more, available at dinner only. Each entrée comes with a Dolchino dessert.
On July 6 at 6 p.m., El Panzon y Frida in Scottsdale hosts a grand opening celebration on Frida Khalo’s birthday. The grand opening will serve as the concept’s official introduction to the community and will feature an array of complimentary tastes, libations and entertainment throughout the evening. Guests are encouraged to don fun, bold and colorful dress attire.
Four Peaks Brewing Co.’s popular “Four Peaks 4 Teachers” classroom supply fundraiser is back, providing thousands of Valley teachers with classroom items. With help from partner organizations and fundraising efforts, Four Peaks will purchase school supplies to fill boxes for teachers in Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Teachers are invited to pick up vouchers beginning July 4 and redeem them for supply boxes from July 24 to July 28. The fundraising campaign will run through Friday, July 28 and includes:
–Proceeds from the sales of Four Peaks 4 Teachers coffee mugs, available exclusively at the 8th St. Brewery’s Studio Store.
–Proceeds from the $5 raffle tickets sold at all Four Peaks locations and online here with raffle prizes including a Four Peaks kegerator, bicycle, and a resort stay.
–$1 from all Four Peaks’ daily lunch and dinner specials will go to Four Peaks 4 Teachers.
–$1 from every T-shirt sold at Four Peaks’ 8th Street Studio Store will be donated to Four Peaks 4 Teachers.
