Multi-Artist Exhibition Debuts at The Monastery

When the owners of The Monastery heard the words, “Let there be light!” they took them to heart. Peoria’s newest artist-owned gallery and creative space AT 8301 W. Washington St. is kicking off its grand opening with “Illuminate: A Captivating Exploration of Light in Art.”

From March 6 through April 12, this exciting exhibition will showcase works by four of the Valley’s most renowned artists: Kevin Caron, Larry Ortega, Gaylen Stewart, and Ceri Jones Tretter. The show is being launched in conjunction with Peoria’s Light at Play Festival, a unique, three-day celebration of light and art from March 6 through 8 from 5 to 9 p.m.

The Illuminate exhibition offers an immersive experience, inviting visitors to witness the fascinating interplay between light and form through the artists’ eyes. Each featured work harnesses the power of light to challenge perceptions, create ambiance, and captivate the senses.

“We are thrilled to present our inaugural exhibition in partnership with these four incredibly talented artists and in alignment with Peoria’s Light at Play Festival,” Founders Charith and Michael Denson said. “We look forward to The Monastery becoming a vibrant and supportive part of the growing arts community within Peoria and connecting to many other valley artists along the way.”

Attendees will be treated to illuminated sculptures, radiant installations, and intricate designs that push the boundaries of traditional art. Highlights include Larry Ortega’s light-sensitive sculptures, Ceri Jones Tretter’s chandeliers, Kevin Caron’s 3D-printed installations, and Gaylen Stewart’s botanical and floral lightboxes. These works redefine the role of light in the artistic process, inviting viewers to see beyond mere illumination and into the depths of creativity and design.

On opening night, March 6, visitors can join artist Gaylen Stewart for an engaging artist talk at 5 p.m. The following day, March 7, Kevin Caron will offer a live 3D-printing demonstration at 5 p.m.

An opening reception will occur on March 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., where visitors can mingle with the artists and explore the exhibition in a lively, social atmosphere. The Monastery will be open to the public Thursday and Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. Admission is free. For more, visit atthemonastery.com.
