This weekend, glammed-up artsy locals gathered to support Phoenix artists at their best Friday night. JUNCTION by RAW: Natural Born Artists hosted an all-out event featuring local artists in film screening, musical performances, a fashion show, art gallery, performance art and hairstyle/makeup at one of downtown Phoenix’s latest places to be, music venue Foundry on First in the warehouse district.
With a mission to provide up-and-coming artists of all creative realms with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity so that they are seen, heard and loved, RAW is an arts organization that educates, connects and exposes emerging artists in 20 artistic communities nationwide through monthly showcase events.
Bumping till 2 a.m., the 1500 capacity space definitely reached its fill. Guests munched on buffet-style food catered by First Friday favorite, Chi Chi’s tacos and enjoyed cocktail service at the bar while browsing visual artists, performing artists on stage and a live fashion show. When not checking out the art dispersed about the vintage warehouse, guests relaxed on comfy semi-circular cushioned booths in the elevated lounge.
Highlights of the night included body painting on local RAW models Tally P, Margo Lilly and Vicki Dzura by artist Amber Riveria; tribal belly dance and music by Ghazaal Beledi; and engaging spoken word poetry by the young and talented 18-year-old Sean Avery Medlin.
The next RAW Phoenix event is set for October 14.
