From Seoul to Scottsdale, K. Nari’s Art Embodies Beauty and Harmony

Now based in the Scottsdale Art District, artist K. Nari is known for her multi-layered, ethereal paintings that capture abstract landscapes and serene florals. Her work has attracted a loyal clientele of homeowners, art collectors, and interior designers, many of whom seek out her custom pieces for their homes and businesses.

Nari’s artistic journey began in Seoul, Korea. Inspired by her mother, who was both an artist and a seamstress, Nari’s early years were filled with creative exploration of Korean culture. After moving to California at 11, she continued to hone her skills, which led her to the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. She graduated with honors in fine arts and illustration in 2000.

Nari began her professional career in Los Angeles as an editorial illustrator for major magazines, publishing houses, and record companies. Her art for Warner Brothers Records even earned her recognition in the Art Directors Annual publication. She exhibited her original paintings in LA-based galleries throughout this time, further cementing her place in the art world.

In 2012, Nari relocated to Phoenix, shifting her focus to full-time painting. Four years ago, she opened her studio on Main Street in Scottsdale – a space she describes as her refuge.

“I enjoy working quietly in my studio, where the only accompaniment is the sound of my brushwork. The sanctuary of this quietude envelopes me and is reflected in my artwork, which evokes a sense of calmness and serenity,” Nari said. “Above any other intent, I embrace beauty in my art. I strive to create painted surfaces that convey a sense of harmony and to create compositions balanced with hues and textures that delight the eye when viewed closely and offer drama from a distance.”

K. Nari Art Studio is located at 7077 E. Main Street in Scottsdale.

Nari’s paintings offer a dynamic visual experience. She enjoys bringing visitors to her studio, especially during Scottsdale’s Thursday evening Art Walks and takes pride in the relationships she builds with those who commission her work.

“I love the challenge that an empty canvas presents and all its possibilities. My paintings are multi-layered, and they evolve slowly, layer by layer. Although I paint with a direction and outcome in mind, these happy accidents appear,” Nari said. “I work intuitively to follow those marks and indications. At this point, my artistic interpretation cannot be predicted. I follow a mood or feeling and then work spontaneously to give each painting a life of its own.”
