Q:  What type of fillers can be used to remove wrinkles?  –Ann
A:  Hello Ann.  Thats a good question.  There are many types of wrinkles actually.  Each type of wrinkle has a different cause and therefore different treatment to improving or removing it.  Lets review all of the available options.

1) Animation wrinkles: Animation wrinkles are caused by our facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, squinting, and raising our eyebrows.  These types of wrinkles are best treated early by Botox to prevent them or later on after they have formed to reduce them.

2) Static wrinkles:  These wrinkles are present regardless of whether we make an expression.  They may have been animation wrinkles at one point and have resulted in permanently creased skin.  Botox and fillers such as Juviderm or Voluma or fat transfer can be used to reduce their appearance.  Laser resurfacing can also be used to refresh the skin and reduce or eliminate these types of wrinkles.

3) Wrinkles caused by volume loss:  Aging and weight loss can result in wrinkles being formed because the tissue volume has decreased.  Fillers such as Juviderm, Voluma, and fat transfer can be used here as well.

4) Skin quality changes:  These types or wrinkles result from sun damage, aging, and other environmental exposure such as smoking.  These types of wrinkles are often best treated with proper skin care if mild or laser resurfacing and possible fillers if they are more significant.

5) Tissue laxity wrinkles:  Finally, there are wrinkles that are caused by tissue laxity.  There are many sources that contribute to tissue laxity including aging.  When this is significant enough tightening of the tissue and skin is often needed.  Surgical procedures such as eye lid lift, face life, neck lift help tighten reposition tissue higher where it used to be.

An in person consultation will be needed to determine which of these wrinkles exist and what custom treatment plan is needed to treat them.
