Glendale Will be Renamed ‘Swift City’ for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour

No one loves Taylor Swift quite like the city of Glendale. Kicking off her five-month-long “The Eras Tour,” Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers announced that the city will temporarily change its name to “Swift City.” The temporary name change goes into effect on Swift’s concert dates, March 17 and 18, at State Farm Stadium.

Arizona fans nominated names including Swiftdale, Taylordale, The City of Taylor Swift and Taylor Nation, among others. The city worked with the venue and Swift’s tour publicist to get approval to use her image on the new city sign. Leading up to the concert dates this week, Glendale will scatter digital billboards along the freeways and throughout the Westgate Entertainment District to welcome fans to Swift City.

Hosting the Super Bowl just last month and now kicking off Swift’s tour, Glendale is referred to as the Sports and Entertainment capital of Arizona. Westgate Entertainment District businesses and local restaurants plan to offer Swift-themed menus to welcome the pop and country music singer-songwriter.

Swift announced on Good Morning America that her new show would represent all 10 of her studio albums. From her 2006 self-titled debut to her latest album, Midnights, Swift plans to sing a variety of her greatest hits. Selling out all across the country, the Grammy award winner will perform at 20 stadiums throughout her tour.

GAYLE and Paramore are openers for the “Swift City” concert this weekend. “The Era Tour” is the first Swift tour since her album Reputation in 2018. For the first time, albums folklore, evermore and Midnights will be performed on tour. Tickets for Swift’s tour were in such popular demand that Ticketmaster’s website crashed when tickets went live in November 2022.

Next door to State Farm Stadium, Heritage at Sportsman’s Park will host a pre-party event from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, March 17 and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 18. The pre-party event is free to attend for all ticket holders and includes Swift-themed food and beverages, a live DJ, lawn games, photo opportunities and more.
