The Arizona Animal Welfare League’s (AAWL) biggest fundraiser of the year is coming up on Saturday, Nov. 4. This is the 25th anniversary of the inaugural Walk to Save Animals to benefit the lives of hundreds of animals each year. This pet-friendly 2K or 5K event makes for a great family outing that helps support the AAWL as they stride toward a no-kill Arizona.

Enjoy fun activities at Tempe Beach Park from 8 a.m.–12 p.m. with friends, family and your furry pals. The event will have an on-site adoption center and pet health supplies for all furry attendees. Dogs can interact in the fun play zone and get pictures with Santa. There will also be dog training demonstrations, food trucks and shopping. AAWL created a limited-edition T-shirt in collaboration with State Forty Eight for all participants to commemorate the event. Tom Fergus from Fox 10 Phoenix will be emceeing the event.

“The Walk to Save Animals brings together the community’s most dedicated animal lovers,” says Alessandra Navidad, president and CEO of AAWL. “This year we celebrate our 25th year of the Walk and the impact that this event has had on our AAWL community and our life-saving programs.”

AAWL is the state’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter, founded in 1971. AAWL is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization. The shelter raises funds through events like the Walk to Save Animals and through other donations.

The shelter rescues 4,000 dogs and cats yearly, working to rehabilitate and rehome the pets. AAWL can hold up to 140 cats and 190 dogs at a time. Its foster program has about 90 families in the network who fosterand take care of animals until they can be adopted. In 2022, the shelter had almost 500 volunteers and spent nearly $1.5 million in veterinary costs to help its animals. The shelter not only rescues animals, but also provides resources for pet owners, like training classes, events and low-cost veterinary services.

The Walk to Save Animals will take place at Tempe Beach Park at 80 W. Rio Salado Parkway on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m.–12 p.m. Registration is $25 per person and the first 1,500 attendees will receive a limited-edition State Forty Eight x AAWL shirt.
