3 Reasons You Should be Meditating

by Hamid Jabbar

The causes of stress are wide-ranging, anything from work-related issues to home responsibilities – all causing significant strain on your mental health. Taking care of your mental health is a necessity for your overall well-being and through regular practice of meditation, you can reduce stress and anxiety, improve overall sleep, and focus on the things that bring you positivity.

Everyday mindfulness

Being mindful of your body’s mental, emotional and physical health is a critical component of meditation. Taking time for yourself helps you maintain a healthy state of mind and allows you to focus on your thoughts and feelings. This could also result in a decrease of over-the-counter solutions to mask stressed or feelings of anxiety, which can ultimately lead to more problems. Mindfulness-based meditation techniques are effective in reducing the symptoms of stress and depression, serving as an alternative to antidepressants without the side effects.

Improve quality of life

According to a study done in 2015, practicing mindfulness improved attention, mood and quality of life in adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Meditation cultivates positivity that allows you to let go of unwanted habits, negativity, and discursive thoughts and instead promotes focusing on things that are truly important to you. For people with these ailments, it’s recommended they practice meditation consistently for eight weeks to reduce symptoms.

Sound meditation

Sound Meditation has been shown to have many dramatic effects on health. This style of meditation helps you slow your breath, quiet your mind and find peace, which is exceptionally beneficial mentally, emotionally and physically. Specifically, meditation to the sound of a gong has been used for thousands of years to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, promoting better sleep and creating a natural meditative state of mind.
