An out of this world experience is taking place at The Coffee Builders. The establishment has launched its new Star Wars themed menu that will be available until May 4th. Each experimental drink features flavors from a galaxy far, far away and arrives in a glass fit for the cantina on Tatooine.
“The process of coming up with the drinks starts with the name, and then we figure out what we put in it to make it taste like that name. Or we look at the drink, for example, if it’s green and blue – it looks like Dagobah,” Owner and Founder Thomas Porter said.
Since opening in 2023, The Coffee Builders has debuted multiple themed menus. The idea first began when Porter invited legendary Disney Imagineer Bob Gurr to the shop.
“We did a Disney theme, and it went over really big. We loved having different drink combinations and it got me thinking that having these fun, creative projects can also keep the baristas on their toes,” Porter laughed.
With a unique look to the ceiling and a speakeasy vibe, The Coffee Builders’ space feels more like a restaurant than a coffee shop, but like most businesses, there are outlets for people to plug in computers. There’s also a large patio for those who want to sit outside before it gets too unbearable to do so.
“We want to pamper and be a little bit more luxurious like a speakeasy,” Porter said. “We want to have this cocktail creative, almost bartender environment, where people come in and feel welcome, feel pampered, and maybe see something that they haven’t before.”
The Star Wars menu was in production for six weeks before taking flight, as baristas experimented and tested drinks behind the scenes.
Standouts include Red Squadron, a refreshing kiwi and blueberry energy drink with popping boba served in a red leader glass; The High Ground, a latte featuring a mix of chocolate and vanilla with a toasted marshmallow served in a tall textured glass as a nod to Anakin and Obi-Wan’s duel; and Matchalorean, a layered matcha with blueberry, honey lavender and lemonade named for The Mandalorian, of course.
“We’re selling an experience,” Porter said. “Part of that is getting people to try something a little more bougie, a little more fun, something unique and different. A lot of times that means creating luxury.”
The menu also includes cantina bowls and the Space Chasers, a flight of espresso shots with flavored chasers. Throughout the year, The Coffee Builders will continue to innovate. The team behind the galactic menu already has multiple other projects in the works. For more information, visit thecoffeebuilders.com.
