Help Make a Splash for Special Olympics Arizona

The Polar Plunge is back, inviting community members to join in the fun while supporting Special Olympics Arizona. The annual event, hosted by the Scottsdale Police Department, helps raise critical funds for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Special Olympics programs benefit over 20,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state, but only a fraction of those individuals have access to the full support they need. Funds raised through the Polar Plunge event help bridge that gap, assisting athletes in reaching their full potential on and off the field.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for law enforcement to unite with the community and make a real impact by raising awareness and vital funds for Special Olympics Arizona,” Mike Burnett, director of the Arizona Law Enforcement Torch Run, said. “These athletes rely on our support now more than ever, and this is our chance to show up and make a difference in their lives.”

Located at Chaparral Park Aquatic Center (5445 Hayden Road, Scottsdale) and taking place on February 22, the event starts at 2 p.m. Those interested will need to pay a $25 registration fee that goes directly toward the Polar Plunge’s $10,000 fundraising goal.

If the plunge is not your thing, there will also be a dunk tank featuring Scottsdale Assistant Police Chiefs, live music, snacks and coffee from Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and a costume competition.

“The need for these funds is urgent, and together, we can ensure these athletes have the resources to continue excelling,” Burnett said.
