Located in the Melrose District, Title 9 Sports Grill will offer a fresh take on the traditional bar experience. Inspired by Title IX, the landmark federal legislation that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs and activities, the bar’s mission is to elevate women’s sports while creating an inclusive space for everyone.
Title 9 hopes to become a cultural movement. The goal is to inspire fans to support women’s teams, empower young girls to participate in athletics, and offer a space where female athletes receive the recognition they deserve.
The idea for Title 9 stemmed from a partnership between two successful Phoenix businesswomen: Audrey Corley, a former college basketball coach and founder of Boycott Bar, and Kat Moore, co-founder of Short Leash Hotdogs + Taproom and an avid soccer player.
The duo noticed a gap in the bar world, where women’s sports often took a backseat to male-dominated events. Together, they decided to fill that void and create a destination that celebrates women and brings them to the forefront of the city’s social scene.
“Phoenix has never seen a space like this, and we’re here to celebrate women’s sports with front-and-center coverage, a welcoming atmosphere, and a menu that honors the athletes we admire,” Moore said.
Title 9 will feature broadcasts across its multiple screens, providing a gathering space where fans, families, and friends can cheer for their favorite teams together.
The menu is designed to reflect Title 9’s goal. Patrons will find elevated versions of classic bar fare, from wings and sliders to salads, with options for those following vegetarian, gluten-free, or vegan diets.
Each dish is named after iconic female athletes, paying tribute to their groundbreaking contributions. The menu exclusively features drinks from female-owned breweries and distilleries, emphasizing the dedication to empowering women.
One of the highlights of Title 9 will be the “Trophy Room,” a space dedicated to showcasing the achievements of women in sports. This area will feature donated trophies, interactive exhibits, and stories of trailblazing athletes, both past and present. Artwork honoring figures like Phoenix Mercury stars and Arizona icons will adorn the walls, creating a celebratory and inspiring atmosphere. With comfortable seating, a wraparound bar, and plenty of TV screens, Title 9 is set to become a hub for fans of all kinds.
“There’s so much excitement around women’s sports right now, and we want to match that energy here in Phoenix,” Corley said. “With amazing teams like the Mercury, we’re proud to support and celebrate women’s sports.”
“We’re thrilled to open a vibrant and welcoming establishment where women’s sports take center stage,” Moore said. “Unlike traditional bars, we’ll offer a bright, unique atmosphere, creating a space where women, families, and all enthusiasts feel included and celebrated.”
Scheduled to open its doors in January 2025, Title 9 Sports Grill will be located at 4221 N. 7th Ave. in Phoenix. For more information, visit title9sportsgrill.com.
