It’s Christmastime again, which means lots of holiday parties. What is the perfect accessory for a night on the town? Red lips. Red lipstick is a classic with celebrities and has yet to go out of style. I know, I know, red lips can be bold but we have made a guide for how to wear red lipstick and the best colors to choose from this holiday season.
The first rule is to make sure that the rest of your face is not covered with ridiculously colored makeup. The secret is to keep the eye make up light and the blush subtle, or else you look like a clown. You do not want to scare people at your holiday festivities—you did that in October. The trick is to just skip the eyeliner all together and go only for mascara but make sure you apply it to the bottom lashes so it will make your eyes pop.
The next tip to consider is to line the outside and inside of your lips because bright red lipstick tends to bleed. The best way to keep your face from looking like The Joker is to fill your entire lips with liner first.
Now, ladies, you have to make sure you pick the right color for you because everyone has different skin tones. Celebrity makeup artist Jemma Kidd says, “If your complexion is pink, you’ll look better in plum shades, while girls with yellow tones are flattered by warmer reds that have a brown base.” Ladies, don’t forget, you can blend any red lipsticks colors together to get the perfect shade.
Our last tip is to pick a lighter shade if you older since our lips thin as we age and extremely dark lips can emphasize them.
Here are my favorite picks for a red lipstick:
Bobbi Brown’s Vintage Red lipstick: This is my go-to red lipstick shade. The shade is universal for anyone. I feel like I stepped into a 1950’s movie and need to start role-playing every time I pucker up my lips.
Kate Spade’s Adventurous Red lipstick: My sister has been using this shade of red for nighttime events and even going out to lunch with friends. The lipstick is sassy but classy, just like Kate.
M.A.C’s Ruby Woo lipstick: This is what made M.A.C. famous, lips that shine on the runway and sparkle in the streets.
Dolce & Gabbana’s Fire lipstick: This bold shade is provocative and exudes sensuality.
For beautiful looks without the crazy color try these:
Lipstick Queen Rouge Sinner lipstick: For a less dramatic look, try this. The lipstick was created to be pink but still lights up your whole face without other intense makeup.
E.l.f. Royal Red lipstick: You can hydrate your lips and still get a great natural color. The blend is a perfect formula for sleek and sophisticated lips.
