It may seem early, but now’s the perfect time to start planning a holiday party that’s as fun as it is unique, sure to bring cheer, joy and memories to your guests.
Grab your friends and dust off those ugly Christmas color-blocked sweaters out of the back of your closets. As funny as the pop-out snowmen appliques and felt Christmas trees and stars are, they do make for a great conversation starter. And no excuses not to wear one: ugly sweater parties have gained such popularity in recent years, it’s pretty much effortless to find one for cheap if you don’t have one at home.
Invite friends and family to bring their favorite appetizer to share. If health is a concern, make it a fun and challenging requirement for your guests to bring foods that are both holiday-themed and healthful. For examples, see eatingwell.com for some food ballin’ healthy Christmas appetizer recipes.
Wrapping gifts doesn’t have to be just another thing on your forever-long to-do list. Turn a mundane holiday task into a decorating party, where everyone brings their gifts and some basic supplies to wrap together. Be inspired and get creative from different design outlets like HGTV and Real Simple.
Get into holiday spirit with movies like It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street to Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, or this generation’s classic A Christmas Story. Add some spice with a drinking game and take a shot whenever someone says “Christmas spirit” or whenever anyone in Santa garb is on screen.
Who doesn’t want the excuse to bust out Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You”? Hit up a karaoke bar or simply invite some friends over with an at-home karaoke set and rock out to some classic holiday jams mixed with some pop reinterpretations to keep the night going.
