The soul shaking, multiple Grammy Award winning, legendary artists of all time, Elton John and Billy Joel are joining forces to create a spectacular touring concert and are making a stop right here in Phoenix to perform at the US Airways Center on Thursday, March 26!
One of the most successful and longest-running concert pairings in pop history, the Face 2 Face tour will open with a series of high energy duets, playing twin pianos and trading vocals. Don’t worry, each artist performs a set with his own band so you can still hear the fan favorites. A grand finale brings the two superstars and their supporting musicians back together for a closing encore. This includes some of both Billy and Elton’s greatest hits along with an unpredictable selection of rock and roll classics.
The tour will kick off in Jacksonville, Florida on March 2, before it makes its way to Arizona.
In 1994, Billy and Elton played the first date of their co-headlining Face 2 Face tour in Philadelphia at the 62,000-capacity Veterans Stadium. Prior to the successful opening, the Face 2 Face concert had a streak of 21 sold-out performances in 13 cities. The duo last toured together in 2003.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at www.usairwayscenter.com. Everyone needs a ticket including infants and all tickets include a $2 charity fee.
About Past Face 2 Face Tours: Perhaps the high point of that 1994 maiden voyage was the series of five concerts at 75,000-capacity Giants Stadium in New Jersey. In his review of the July 22 performance, Neil Strauss of the New York Times said “Musically, the two gifted, idiosyncratic artists exist in the nether world between pop and rock, where Broadway show tunes, classical compositions, ragtime, gospel and rock-`n’-roll mingle freely.”
The 1994 Face 2 Face Tour played its final concert August 20 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL. It had become one of the ten biggest US tours of all time. In March and April 1995, the Face 2 Face Tour returned for twelve encore performances at some of the country’s largest stadiums.
Three years later, the tour that conquered North America took Europe, Japan and Australia by storm with a total of 30 performances.
Billy and Elton last toured together in 2003 with 24 sellouts. There could be no doubt that Face 2 Face starring Billy and Elton was according to Billboard, “the most successful touring package of all time.”
About Elton John and Billy Joel: With such classic, award winning hits as “Tiny Dancer” and “Rocketman”, Elton John has easily become one of the most successful and influential artists of all time and is now in the fourth decade of his career. He has sold over 200 million records and has more than 50 Top 40 hits including seven consecutive No. 1 U.S. albums, 56 Top 40 singles, 16 Top 10, four No. 2 hits, and nine No. 1 hits. He has won five Grammy awards and one Academy Award, according to Wikipedia.
Billy Joel, the American rock artists, singer-songwriter and classical composer, doesn’t fall far behind Elton. That’s great the some of the proceeds go to charity.
Wow that’s great they are doing this! It would be fun to hear them together, as well as perform their greatest hits separately. Fun stuff!
