Having four eyes has never been more fashionable thanks to leading luxury department store, Saks Fifth Avenue. In late August Saks Phoenix opened a brand new in-store optical boutique featuring an exclusive selection of designer eyewear, eye exams, sate-of-the-art lens technology and more. Out of forty-one U.S. Saks stores the Biltmore Fashion Park location is the only to offer comprehensive eye exams and optometry services along with designer frames.
Shoppers can visit the beautiful new boutique, located on the first floor next to jewelry, seven days a week during regular store hours. Dozens of designer names will be available including Tom Ford, Miu Miu, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, and Sama just to name a few. Best of all, the boutique will be regularly staffed by licensed Opticians with an Optometrist on site one day a week.
We had the opportunity to visit Saks Phoenix Optical Boutique and receive a full eye exam plus frame selection session prior to grand opening. Being a daily prescription wearer we were more than excited to experience the new specialty spec shop and Saks did not disappoint. We’ve been through more eye exams than we can count and can confidently say our Saks appointment was the most thorough we’ve ever had. The hour long exam felt more like a coffee date with a friend than a doctors appointment (ok, other than the air puffs to the pupil but we don’t think anyone enjoys that part).
One of the more unique aspects during our exam was the Optician who performed visual acuity and refraction tests via remote video feed. Additionally, our onsite optician led us through a series of other tests including color blindness, ocular motility (eye movements) and stereopsis (depth perception) along with more complex tests like using a high-powered lens to examine the tiny structures inside of our eyes.
Next came the fun part: picking out frames! The predicament with most optical shops is lack of stylish selection however at Saks you’ll find the complete opposite. While having too many fab options to chose from is obviously a great problem, narrowing it down to one set of specs was a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, the Saks optical staff has impeccable taste and was extremely helpful with our search. In fact, the winning frames were a staff suggestion and not something we would have selected ourselves which we love!
